The compensation for my position is highly comparable to area hospitals but postions above mine, such as an LPN or RN, are not as comparable in addition to the recent overall reduction of benefits. Wuesthoff offers opportunities to nursing students a great deal more than the nearby hospitals and they really work with the students to help us grow and offer very flexible schduling according to our availability. Leadership focuses too much on the bottom dollar and cost cutting. They fail to see that the $150,000/year that they save my understaffing CNA's alone, everyday on each unit, ultimately costs them millions of dollars each year from people, with insurance and the choice of another hospital, that do not use our hospital because of poor service due to understaffing.

Advice for prospective applicants:

If you are a nursing student, I highly recommend Wuesthoff. If you are not a student, don't leave your current job. Try Wuesthoff first to see how you fit. The best option is to work in the Nurse Float Pool to see 'where' you fit. There are floors where I would absolutley NOT want to work permanently. There are other floors that have a great staff to work with, but unbearable management, and those that have great staff and great management/leadership. Things to consider are if you are working per diem or parttime; can you afford to have your hours cut (drastically at times) when things are slow. Wuesthoff has a fantastic cardiac team/units and the ICU and CSU are each top notch with excellent nurses that work as a team.

New ICU, clean/well ran. 23 beds, lots of learning experiences. Good people to work with.

Advice for prospective applicants:

Be yourself, help and ask to help others
