About Me:
Critical Care..... Worked ICU for 6+years and 3 yrs for an agency contracting with all area hospitals in SLC Utah. One night at UofU med center at the burn unit, next pm the thoracic ICU at the VA hospital, then St Marks cardiac ICU. Wherever I was assigned I was given a 10 minute orientation, a med cart key and report on my assigned patients. WHAT AN EDUCATION !!! From that position I took the "one nurse" Infusion Therapy department at the Regional Hospital in Southern Utah (St. George) where I took call 24/7, wrote the entire policies for IV therapy for the entire Hospital, taught the IV classes for all nursing staff, and inserted 10-15 PICC (central lines inserted via the anticubital area) per week. This position I managed (my department grew to 12 RNs) for 5 years. I left the Hospital in 1991 to administer (as the owner) my own Skilled nursing "Long Term Care" Facility through 1998 when I was injured (the passenger) in a traumatic motor vehicle accident, seems like I fractured everything !!! I let my RN license lapse in 2002 as I did not expect my health to return to a level that I could return to Nursing. Now, thanks to the Lord and my persistent will to survive I've rehabbed to a state of good health and I've developed a burning desire to get back into serving as a professional RN again. If anyone can offer some help in locating employment having been out of nursing for 5 years feel free to email me durhamsmiles@aol.com. I'd really like to travel nurse but the agencies all want "recent" experience. What kind of "return to nursing" employment is out there ???
