About Me:
I am a new RN who left my stable, good job at the United States Postal Service after 13+ years to achieve my goal of becoming a nurse. I graduated in May, 2008 and returned to the University of Akron already to their RN to BSN program where I will graduate in May, 2009. My goal is to continue on and get my Master's and become a CRNA. I have two wonderful kids: a 17-year-old son and 6-year-old daughter. My biggest challenge right now is becoming oriented to my first job as a RN in the Progressive Care Unit, which is the ICU Stepdown in a small, community hospital. I am feeling very overwhelmed right now, and I wonder if I will ever acquire all the skills I need to become a proficient RN!!! Anyway, I enjoy spending time with my kids and making new friends!

    Thanks for your invitation. I can still remember how it felt being a new nurse. I was advised by the Nurse Administrator that I "looked like I would do well in Emergency Room and crosstraining in ICU" I had asked to work in OB but she said they did not need anyone. Of all the departments in the hospital ER and ICU were the least on my list. I was a nervous wreck for the first six months and then I started to learn so many skills I started feeling more confident as a real nurse. I am sure it won't take as long for you to feel more confident. My thoughts are with you,
