Nurse Accused of Sex with Inmate

HENDRICKS COUNTY, IN – Hendricks County Sheriff’s Department officials say a private contract nurse engaged in an unlawful sex act with a female inmate at the county jail.

Chief Deputy Steve Wagner said Steve Wojcik, 43, Indianapolis, was arrested today and held on a preliminary charge of sexual misconduct by a service provider, a felony,

Wojcik is a nurse with Advanced Correctional Heathcare, an Illinois-based company that provides medical services to Hendricks County Jail inmates.

Wojcik has been removed from duty pending outcome of legal action against him, sheriff’s department officials said.

Wagner said in a prepared statement that an investigation began Wednesday after another nurse with Advanced Correctional Healthcare noticed a demeanor change in a female inmate.

The inmate made an allegation that she had engaged in a sex act with Wojcik while in a medical room with him, Wagner said. The other nurse reported the accusation to jail staff and Advanced Correctional Healthcare officials.

Following an investigation by Sgt. Chuck Morefield, Wojcik was questioned and placed under arrest.

“We will not tolerate any criminal activity by any employee or contractor providing services to the jail,” Sheriff Dave Galloway said in a prepared statement.
