I am considering Topamax for my migraines. Do you or anyone you know take it? I have a girlfriend who has a sister that is taking it for migraines. She says it has helped her~and an added benefit is weight loss (for some). I like it already!
I have done some reading on it, but want to hear from "real" people on their take on the med.
Thanks-Bobbi

Sorry I can't help you because I must have been living under a rock and haven't heard about this drug. I hope it does work because so far nothing works for my migraines.

Sorry I couldn't be of much help

Yes actually, my brother and I both have migraines and they put him on Topamax several years ago. It is the best thing I have seen work for someone with as frequent of migraines as he was getting. The key to keeping the migraines at bay is to NEVER forget to take the daily dose.

Hey thanks for your reply. I see the doc next week, hopefully she will let me get it.
Good to know it works for him!

I took Topamax for migraines, and it worked for awhile, then quit working. I've also taken Depakote in the past, and that worked well for several years.

I found myself taking more and more triptans (usually Zomig) for my migraines, then read an article about rebound migraines with the triptans. I qiut taking them, and used other methods to stop my migraines (dark room, cold compresses, bio-feedback). They are now under control for the first time in 10 years.

Good deal, glad to hear someone is getting relief!

I took Topamax for about 2 months. It made me so mean. I would snap at the drop of a hat. This is not like me. Everything got on my nerves! I went back to Inderal. It works very well for me.

I haven't taken Topamax (I think that is one that I could have potentially been allergic to, so we didn't go there).....I take Relpax and find it quite helpful:) Good luck!

I use Imitrex prn for my migraines. I have been having to use less and less over the past couple of years, which has been a blessing. I have a few patients who have used Topamax for prophylactic treatment of migraines, however, I've heard that the side effects (ie: metallic taste in the mouth) leave much to be desired. I've also heard of using Atenolol for prophylaxis with fewer side effects. Can't use this though if your BP is already too low, or if you're bradycardic.
