At a place I worked, nurses were suppose to wear their caps during Nurses week. Well no one did. I couldn't even find mine.

Hey, when I do clinicals there are a bunch of nurses wearing the white uniforms with their caps. they get a discount on meals if they do.

Yeah Keep it I look at the old photos at school and now wish I could find my hat. How proud I was when I received it and my school pin. it proclaimed to all I was a nurse. Silly I know but it did. -

Place it in a museum of "HALL OF FAME" hehe,,make proud of it.. dont just keep it..hehe,,LOL =)

They sell caps and a neat case. The case is only 3.50 and yes guys, some schools still do capping ceremonies. The guys just get pinned. It is a tradition, perhaps one that is passing away, but still here.

I just checked out the caps, makes me want one for graduation. It just doesn't seem right not to have a cap for the ceremony. I felt so special when we said our pledge and they capped us for the practical nurse coarse, it really was a major accomplishment. We are debating on lab jackets...some want them others don't. The thing is anyone can wear a lab jacket not everyone get the cap. Don't get me wrong, I don't want to wear it to work it just seems like a trophy in a way.

Although I don't work in the hospital anymore, I wore my cap all the time. It was small enough not to be in the way and I was proud of it. If you don't wear it anymore, keep it forever. My sister and I still have the caps our mother got in 1929. When she died we buried her nursing pin with her. She hadn't practiced since she got us in the 50's, but kept her license active until she got really sick 2-3 years prior to her death. Once a nurse, always a nurse.

I am in  flex program at a technical school that also offers other classes in other fields for adults and high school kids.  We only have 1 ceremony a year-in May-wether you are done or not.  The criteria to be elidgible to participate in the ceremony is to be 2/3 completed with the program.  I was eligible, but I still have about 3-4 months of school left----

so, long story short--recieving my cap was like giving a kid a sucker and telling them that they just have to look at it and admire it....but I got it and I am almost done so I guess I should quit whinig and count my blessings.

I just graduated and we wore our caps during the graduation ceremony with the tassel attached.  It was cute.  I am going to buy a display case for mine.  They sell them at Michaels.  I also saw a clear bag sold on e-bay for you to keep your nursing cap in.

I have a LOTTTT of nurses in my family and I remember all of them and their caps.  The last nurse in the family to finish was my aunt in the 80's.  Her school had the cap ceremony.  She still has her cap in a hat box.  I remember my older aunts and grandmother wearing their white dresses and hats proudly.  My school does not offer a hat ceremony only pinning.  I was debating if I was goind to attend my graduation at all.  I finish in October and my graduation will be in December and my school only gives 4 tickets per student.  So OP keep that hat and pull it out on ocassion so you will remember what you have accomplised in your nursing career.
