Wll I am a RN BSn have been for 20 years. I just suffer a bout in the hospital, I can telll you it was the worst experiance of my life. I have been out a nursing a few yrs to stay home with my kids and I can't imagine why these people are nurses. If i would have ever acted like most of them I would have been fored in a heartbeat. None fof them even got in trouble even when I complained over and over to admi. One shower i had in 2 weeks there that was only when I was able to do it myslf. Bd changed once in a wk. Is this right? Haing to wait ovr an hr fpr pain meds that weer due hald hr eairler. It was unreal and as I said I am a RN cant't imagine what kind of care lay people when they wheer so poor to one of thier own. It was unreal. I am so glad to be out of nursing for now . I soo can't belive these people call themselves professionals. Any stories anyone? Thye never even checked on I was delusional on the pain meds and no one even cared.

So sorry to read about your horible experience- make sure you contact Patient Relations and express your concerns- until more patients and their families express their concerns to hospital administration, the question of staffing will not be properly addressed.

It's alot different on the other end isn't it? The new graduates today are quite different than when I was in school (back in the dark ages). There's no respect and no pride in being a nurse. Nursing is a calling. But some of the newer ones don't see it that way. It's sad really. I see alot of changes in attitudes of nurses and toward nursing. I wanted to be Florence Nightingale What do these new nurses want. It seems to be a stepping stone to something else that pays more money and gives more prestige. Poor patients!

I agree with you charlita. I come from the old days too and I can't believe some of the things I see and hear. I try to do my best, and beat myself up at the end of the day because I some how should have done better. When I first got to Ca. a pt called and the nurse that answered the call light said you are just going to have to wait, I just poured me a cup of hot coffee and I'm not leaving until it's finished, unreal. People that got sick while vacationing in MT from other states would say, the care is fabulous here. I thought they were crazy until I got around. I think it's awful the people that say "they just went to the bathroom, they are going to have to wait." Don't think they'd say that when they are in bed having to go. I to am sorry bound, hope your feeling better.

i have been lucky. recently gave birth and my hospital stay in the maternity ward was wonderful, the nurses were great. how ever the emergency room was just awful! my brother went in with lower left abdominal pain and we thought it was an apendicitis, but it turned out his lympnodes were inflamed and causing the pain, due to having strep throat and not knowing. the doctors were great, but the nurse who gave him the discharge papers had no clue what she was talking about even with the discharge papers in hand! i loved the service overall that they provided for my brother, but the nurse was awful.
