I am just looking to find likeminded nurses as I have been sticking out like a sore thumb for so long in nursing school...I just want to fit in! I have a passion for the amazing abilities of the female body and went to nursing school so that I could assist women in natural childbirth and breastfeeding.
Now I find myself 2 weeks away from graduation, applying (and not being called back) for jobs in Birth Centers in MA. My spirit is bummed, I just can't see myself doing anything else, but I certainly need a job. Did I work THIS hard, with sick people, in hospitals, assisting with medical birth after medical birth in AL, just to have to find a job doing the same thing?!
Graduation was supposed to set me free of all of this "going through the motions".
Any advice? I will be moving to northern MA in a month, and nobody seems to be hiring new grads that didn't precept there.
Glad to be here by the way.

Even with such as shortage, new grads don't always get their pick of jobs. You basically have two options...1. Hold out for the position you desire, or 2. go for a second choice that will gain you nursing experience until you have luck with #1. Either way, best of luck to you.

Well thanks, if I had the means to hold out for the perfect job, I would. But I am not too certain that would be the best thing for my nursing skills either. So, I will have to buck up and grow up. Sick people (ewww) here I come! Thanks for the words of encouragement.

Hang in there and be persistent! I know in our area, the birthing centers are particular about their new hires. Instead of applying to the birthing center, try applying to the OB floors at local hospitals. Once you get a few months experience, then go to your birthing centers.

you should consider continuing your education - Certified Nurse/Midwife is a recognized advanced practice role - requires a master's degree, but it will give you lots of opportunities.

When you're so passionate about doing something, it's really hard to be patient, but getting some experience that you can build on, will serve you well throughout your career. Take it one step at a time and work toward your goal. With your committment, you'll get there and my prediction is that you're going to be great at whatever you do. Good luck to you.
