Posted 2 months ago This is a topic I am very interested in I will explore this topic in a series of post. My first input is that nurses must be treated properly while working to ensure that there health and happiness and objectivity is being maintained It is imperitive that while caring for others the nurse health and happiness must not be jeopardize this will be my introduction and i will gradually build on this topic. |

| Posted 2 months ago nurses must not be overworked. The nurse is critical in the recovery of the patient but in so doing their life expectancy must not be shorted as a result of this. one of my first issue I will tackle is the overwork of nurese by some fascility more typically the nursing homes who tax the nurses strenght and endurance. I respectfully state that each nursing home fascility must have a unit secretary, a charge nurse or office personel for each and every unit of there fascility who performs office type duties which includes answering the phone, taking appointments, faxing labs and dealing with minor family issues and is a laison between different department including dietary and rehad. This should in fact become a law and if not followed fascilities should be sited. The overabundance of work have led to nurese dying of strokes and heart failure and whatever I can do to prevent this I will. I will continue with other series within this same topic. |

| Posted 2 months ago I think I should define this topic a little more. How can we improve the treatment of nurses in the work place and how can we improve our working conditions. This is not a new topic but one we can discuss and goals we can aspire to and maybe just maybe with enough beleif and spirittual energy we might see changes. There will be maybe more nurese who have had good experiences but this would be ideally fior those who have met challenges through no fault of there own. |

| Posted 2 months ago Note Iam going to be putting forth my ideas on what I think can and should be done but this topic is not to discourage or undermine the work of nurses. The goal is to improve those of us whose nursing experience has not always been so good. I dont want this topic to create any bad feelings are unhappiness. Nursing career can be a happy experience if certain tools are set in place. It has not always been a happy experience for me but I am sure it has been for the majority of nurses. |

| Posted about 1 month ago I propose it is time the patient to nurse ratio be iimproved from 30 patient per nurse to 15 patient per nurse. Indeed the nurse knows her duty and does her duty well but indeed the patient s benefit would even be more maximized if the nurse was able to manuever herself more easily with 15 patient. |

| Posted about 1 month ago For those fascilties that utilize the med cart on the floor the garbage disposal or garbage buket should be on the right of the cart most people are right handed and therefore it is difficult to pass the garbage to the left of the cart without turning or twisting each time. |

| Posted about 1 month ago My next point to tackle is this I recently had stint working night shift in a hospital. The staff were wonderful, their code of ethics in the work place was marvelous however I did find a few flaws. 1) I recommend that the computerize system that has been implemented for charting either be imputed by a select person or they develop some technique to prevent the transference from the computer keys bacteria each time different people use the computers, as often times some people may not have washed their hands it should be washed but some dont. A hospital is filled with many bugs. It was reported to me that more than one nurse had come down with pneumonia and a couple had dropped dead. I myself developed a severe sinus infection. My finger also became infected after I had to slide it into a slot to punch in. I will continue addressing other issues until next time Ps I want to change the eopic from Ethics in the workplace to problem in nursing. I refer to the ltc( nursing) when addressing patient ratio. |

| Posted about 1 month ago My next problem to tackle is how does one distinguish the role of the lpn from the cna when your boss says you are there supervisor yet you are punished if they refuse to follow direction and seek retribution against you when you are only trying to do your job. If you are nice they say you are weak if you are strict they say you are overbearing.
I suggest there be some reform in the role of the lpn and there be an independent board to review complex issue between the nurse and those whom she supervise.outside of the of the don and administtrator. |

This is also every RN's dilemma. People/coworkers are often to quick to judgement rather than stopping to think things through. Instead of doing as directed, the thought seems to be they are over worked as if you're not doing what you're supposed to be doing. It would be excellent if you would respond to some of the questions posed rather than turn this into one person's rant Deb |

| Posted about 1 month ago damazement Thanks for your response. Its appreciated.
I did not want to debate the issues but present problems that are prominent to nursing. However feel free to rant as much as you want to too. My hopes is with our ranting someone will notice and there will be improvements in nursing. |

| Posted about 1 month ago Teamwork has to be the key for this and educating everyone into following the proper chain of command. It is very difficult to achieve this but good faculty meetings and mediators can assist with getting everyone on the same page and getting people to all work towards the same goal..."EXCELLANT PATIENT CARE" Drew |

| Posted about 1 month ago I have found that when one person dictates the way they want it to be in any given facility, and have little or no power to make change, they become distanced from the way things work. Change comes slowly to most facilities, unless there has been something catastrophic happen.. If you want things to change no matter where you work be an example first, change will follow the leader. |

| Posted about 1 month ago Frank... Good response. How can we help those whom are struggling. I have worked in the legal system and the teaching system and the one that displeasures me most is nursing (and not because of the patients thats the best part) God bless.
