Hello, my name is Melba and I am from NJ. I am currently enrolled in a nursing program where i am just about to complete anatomy and physiology 2. I must admit that nursing is and has been a passion of mines for quite sometime yet I haven't been able to pursue it ,until now. Does anyone have any advise for me regarding how to keep myself positive and focus as the subjects and courses appear to only be getting more difficult? By far the nursing program is the most challenging experience I have ever encountered, considering I already attended and graduated from grad school, the courses and material are very difficult to absorb especially if you work full time and attend school part-time. Thanks and I look forward to many years of chatting with the members of nursing link.

Melba,

Good luck to you. Don't give up! Yes things get tougher I must admit.  I just finished NURSING II and enjoyed clinicals so much.  Graduation is in 09.

My advice to you is to take your time, study as much as you can.  I give you credit. Working full time and taking classes is tough.  Since I'm only 20 I guess I have the luxury of just going to school.

My best to you....................future nurse!

Hi Melba,

My advice is to stay focused on the big picture, that you want to be a nurse, and eventually you will be there some day, some how. Don't give up if you really want it, you must have passion! Nursing is a way of life, and there are a lot of different things you have to learn and experience along the way. My toughest part has been working concurrently with school and it makes it very challenging. But I have encountered a few stumbling blocks as I continue down the path but I just remember that one day I will be an RN, with a BSN license and that is what matters to me the most right now, is my future. So just keep working towards your goal, no matter how mundane it becomes because one day you will have your prize at the end of your journey! Best of luck to you!

Welcome to NL,

Angela

Congratulations on the steps that you are already taking toward your goals. People are often amazed at how much harder nursing school is compared to other college programs. One way to stay positive is to keep connected with other nurses and nursing students. The forums here on Nursing Link are a great way to do that. Another way is through the power of story. I know that you probably don't have too much extra time for reading. However, a book of inspirational short stories could provide the motivation you need along the way.  I recommend either Chicken Soup for the Nurses Soul or Stories for Nurses: Acts of Caring. We spend so much time feeding our minds that we forget to feed our spirit.

We also forget to take care of ourselves.  Everyone needs to take time out every day to just relax.  Read a book for fun, take a walk, spend time with friends and family.  Or just be quiet for an hour, sleep, eat a meal or snack, watch tv.  Whatever relaxes you and eases your mind

Whatever else you do, get your proper rest.
