NEW GRAD/RN

Posted 5 months ago Why is it that while in nursing school they all say how nurses are in great demand but when you finally graduate and get your license it's a different story? I recently passed my boards and have been searching for a job for about a month now but most hospitals want you to have some experience before they will hire you?! Now Nursing Homes will. Where do you begin? Mrs. Woods RN |

| Posted 5 months ago Where do you live? Even in small GA town Gainesville with six nursing schools around they hire new grads. Ginny |

| Posted 5 months ago Have they not heard of the nursing shortage there? Places are hiring new grads as charge nurses. I do not agree with that but they are hiring new grads everywhere. Ginny |

| Posted 5 months ago That's how it is here in WY. They had a waiting list to hire new grads and the list is gone. I have a chance to take my old job in a nursing home as a new grad but I'm just not sure. I know I have to get a job though. I did get some calls for LPN travel nurse but I'm not sure if that will help me getting into travel nursing as a RN. The pay will be better than the hospital, but I want to work in acute area. I haven't been able to work in critcal area as a LPN and now I want to challenge myself. It'll happen, just be the squeaky wheel. Please don't pay any attention to my misspelled words or typos. Sorry I'll try harder next time. |

| Posted 5 months ago I just don't understand it at all but what are you going to do? I am just blessed to be this far and wherever I work I will put my all into it. Mrs. Woods RN |

| Posted 5 months ago gerriewoods, How many institutions have you applied for positions? What types of units? |

| Posted 5 months ago I have applied to many institutions and still applying! All units: Med-surg, OR, Cardiac/Telemetry and so forth. Mrs. Woods RN |

| Posted 5 months ago Many institutions will not consider you for employment, depending on the state where you reside until you have passed the NCLEX. Reapply with proof of licensure in your possession and I think things will change Deb

| Posted 5 months ago My school says they place you in a position once you pass the NCLEX. I hope that's true. You might have to do something like med surg Right now I would like psych or else go take an additional class for OR and learn all the instruments etc.

| Posted 4 months ago I have had the same experience. I live in the bay area and I am having a difficult time finding a job. Kaiser hired Oakland hired only 12 new grad nurses for thier New Grad program and I have heard they had over 450 applicants for thier program. I have been looking for about 3 weeks. by the way new grad nurses working with Kaiser are making a start pay of about $ 50 per hour!!! so of course nurses are flocking there. I will keep looking but our instructors warned us that new grads are not getting jobs as readly as they once were. |

| Posted 4 months ago My friend just graduated in May and passed the NCLEX. He was hired in a NY hospital for $80,000 a year. New York and New Jersey are doing well from what I hear from other nurses as well as my instructors. *Samantha*

| Posted 4 months ago I have a job interview tomorrow in the local hospital for telemetry or PCU. I'd appreciate positive thoughts. I'm so excited, scared and doubting of my skills. Amazing, I interviewed for CCU in 2000 as an LPN, but my husband got orders to move so I didn't take it. I doubt my skills as a RN, but was a confident LPN. Any way cross your fingers. Starting wage posted in $23.55/hr with 8-12% depending on experience. Please don't pay any attention to my misspelled words or typos. Sorry I'll try harder next time. |

for a year and then move into the department you prefer. I'm really not a med surg fan.
