Hello.  I haven't checked in for a while.  I am just wondering about what other Nursing Programs in different geographical areas require in grades to pass the application screening process for the nursing program.  Here's my question:  does the school in your area accept re-takes?  For example, if you get a C in A & P I - are you allowed to retake the class?

Although, I still have to confirm this with my school councelor - I am hearing from my classmates (in Chemistry 305) that if a student acquires a C in Chemistry, then that student had better earn a minimum of  As & Bs in A & P I, A & P II, & Microbiology and that re-taking any one class is not acceptable unless the student got a C-.  Now, I can't guarantee the I'll get a C- in the class.  I got a rough start in Chemistry this summer session and have requested to drop because I don't want a C, which I know I would probably get.  I think I could do better in this class if I worked PT hours each week instead of 40.

I would think it would depend on the program you are applying to and if there is a waiting list.  I believe most schools would take a retake for a pre-req.

If you can work part-time, it would probably be a good idea.  I have 2 more semesters for my RN and working 40 hours a week killed me.  I am looking at part-time myself.

I go to school in WI and we need a C to pass the pre req classes.  This summer I am in Microbiology and we can get a 70 and still pass.  But the core nursing classes you need to average an 80 on all the tests to stay in.  We need an 85 for Math for Meds also.

I live in Washington state and in all my pre req's I have to have at least a 2.5 GPA in all classes.  I am hoping to get that in Chem.  I want better, but if I can just get through it with a 2.5 I will be very happy!  My school does allow retakes.

Thanks for the replies everyone.  I found out that I can fill out a petition form to re-take a class.  The nursing counselor advised me that it's usually not an issue to do so.  I would just have to justify that my GPA is dependent upon being accepted into the program.  For Sac City Community College in California,  students must have an accumulated GPA of 3.0 for the prereq BIO classes.

Hey! So do I! What part of Washington? If you can get at least a B that would be good. The classes that will hold the most weight will be the micro and anatomy classes. Good luck!

In my school, if you get a C it is passing, but you are allowed to retake the class.. C is the average grade.. I don't know why they wouldn't accept you..
