Why not make it even more difficult?

Posted about 1 month ago So now, with the new point system, people are going to lose stars because they don't meet the new requirements, which by the way I think have been elevated to the point, as to be almost unattainable. Each of us, have careers, school, families, other interests, so now we're supposed to start more new topics, which so many are repeats and or duplicates of the older established topics, spend hours online looking for articles, continually seek out new people to place on our friends list and still have a life...Geesh you sound like to many employers I know Deb

| Posted about 1 month ago Seriously? What new point system? Where do I find out about this? Totally right dmazment...the way you describe it sounds more like a job than a site used for enjoyment, peer interaction, and elightenment. |

| Posted about 1 month ago Well, I am done with it. I have been on here since the beginning and spent a lot of time on here. I wrote training articles, submitted articles, mentored new members and my points were reduced? I spent time on real solid nursing issues not the mindless games and mindless topics. Now, I am busted because I spent time doing what this site is supposed to be about. Networking and education. Yeah, right. Ginny |

What is this all about and where can I find the info on the "new point system"? I agree with RN2B-there's too many changes going on. I cannot keep up with them. What was wrong with the old way? Why continually change something on the site? Again I say-If it ain't broke, don't fix it! |

| Posted about 1 month ago I am so done with it all. I have contributed a great deal to this site with significant nursing information and not just the break time junk. (I am not saying that the break time and goofy things are not needed). I am saying I spent hours with researching topics, writing topics and making attempts at having educational and professional discussions on here. I feel like going in and deleting every significant topic, news article, and training article that I have contributed but I will not. Instead, I am out of here and over to all nurses and med central. I hope to see some of the friends that I have made here on the other sites. I fully expect that this one will be deleted by the powers that be. Ginny |

| Posted about 1 month ago I'm not to fond of the changes made and that are made everytime I sign in. I haven't been on any of the break time sites in quite some time. Maybe it is since I'm done with school I don't need the break time, down time, stress relief that I needed during school. I get on every now and then to see what has been said, not like every few minutes like before. |

| Posted about 1 month ago Well it is now obvious that goofiness is more rewarded on this site than anything significant. Ginny |

| Posted about 1 month ago The reason why I joined nursing link is because I like it because it has EVERYTHING that I might need while I am going to school. It has very interesting articles. I really enjoyed the one today about the mistakes made in nursing school. I come here for support, and for new friends. It is nice to have the "point" system, BUT that is not why I joined. Even though I love having "two stars" under my picture, I don't necessarily have to have one. This is a great website for nursing students, because it allows us to interact with real nurses and get advice. For example, I posted a couple of months ago about a good drug handbook for nurses. I was able to make my decisions based on the replies and messages left for me. I do like "Break Time", because it gives me a break from studying, but it also serves as a reminder for me to get back to studying, so that I can post as an RN in 4 semesters....:) |

| Posted about 1 month ago vwoods, that's how I was. Loved it during school, didn't even know about the star thing until about a year into it. I don't try to get stars, I like reading all the info out there. I like seeing everyones views and also to find out that nursing seems the same and we are all going through simular situations. I liked the rah-rah, when I needed it. Now I just need a job as an RN, I never thought it would take time to get an RN position. |

| Posted about 1 month ago I wonder if a few members are having difficulty finding the right words to express their anger and exasperation over the new point system. The problem would seem to be that the next level up is now further out of reach, though that may not be the case. Apparently, the problem has been far more basic and understandable for a long, long time. Here's a site that offers you a form of credit--points--for the things you do. Submit a news article, receive points; make a new friend, receive points; and so on. Where else in life do you get recognition for all the things you contribute or accomplish? Certainly not your job. For many members, the activity is fun and gratifying. The points are a measure of accomplishment, a source of self-esteem and pride. Of course, members are liable to grow vexed if for one website-programming-glitch or another they don't get the points they were promised for their efforts. At some point, when the site's bugs persist at diminishing their scores--sometimes radically lowering the totals--these people are likely to get hopping mad. Evidently, it's taken a year or more for the site's operators to respond to the kinks in their site's arithmetic. Good Lord, arithmetic errors, and a year or longer of inattention to them--how could people not get mad? Moreover, now that the site's operators have finally responded to the site's problems with addition, they may have created a new glitch: apparently they've blurred the boundries among the various kinds of contributions so that one member's busy-work and quantity can overtake another member's thinking-work and quality. Whether the new bug is real or imagined, it's certainly sucking the fun out of participating on the site for some members. Evidently, thousands of new members of Nursing+Link have already abandoned the website. (Scroll through Currin's "List of Friends"; she has over 4000 friends; you'll find page after page after page of unrecognizable names on the list.) No doubt many more will follow. You can't promise people something for their efforts and then jerk them around when it's time to make good on your promise.

| Posted about 1 month ago I Just noticed the new changes today and I am equally pissed I fired off a few emails to powers to be, not that anyone cares, but this new system sucks, I was actually having fun on this site but my balloon has popped, someone needs to fire the captain of this ship and find one with two firing brain cells because it makes NO sense right now at all! A busy RN is here |

| Posted about 1 month ago Well, I am fairly new to the site and no really familiar with the point system. I joined because I thought it would be a great site to network with established nurses and others like me who are striving to get to that point. It's really heartbreaking to see some of you considering leaving the site. I am taking and intro to Healthcare class and I just gave the entire class the site address because I though they would benefit from reading the articles on specialties, requirements, and to talk to nurses who have been where we are today. Please reconsider or maybe suggest another site where we could meet again. |

| Posted about 1 month ago Not really here for the points & all that muck. I think when reputation scores came about it kinda skewed the perception of the site for some. The only thing I took some pride in was that I was a "founding member". I just wanna come on here every now & then and talk to some folks about stuff that interests me; maybe help out some "gonna-be's". I don't want to watch nursing videos and I'm really not into the articles. Interaction with people is what I come here for. I've been to allnurses.com & there were about a billion nurses on there. Not very personal & I'm not going back. So, whether or not anyone cares, I'll be here. |

| Posted about 1 month ago Martini wrote, "Can some one explain what we need the points for and why do we need them." For the site's operators, the points are a way to induce members to continue visiting the site: the more hits the site receives, the more attractive it becomes for advertisers to invest money for space on the site. For the site's members, the points probably just started out as fun. Eventually, they become gratifying, and a way to measure achievement-- especially to members who exert themselves at contributing to the site. Whether you or I care about the scores is almost immaterial. Plainly, they matter to some people. But here's the rub. Sometimes, veteran members would log onto the site and find enormous, unexplained subtractions from their scores; they would also be denied credit for some of their latest contributions, at least apparently so. According to some veterans, it took over a year for the site's operators to adjust the bugs, or rather, defects with arithmetic. Then, once adjustments finally came, old boundries blurred, some scores changed significantly, and some positions overturned. Some members felt cheated, and justifiably so. Throughout this time, members in general stumbled over additional defects on the site. Some of the complaints were valid, others not. Currently, one defect prevents me from doing what I basically visit the site for--adding more questions to "The Game." After sending three e-mails about the problem, the site's operators responded, basically, that they don't fix defects on this site unless the defects also occur on some other of the dozen or so web sites that they operate. You and I form the foundation for the potential revenue on the site. I think the site's operators should be much more accommodating about fixing the site's defects. I also have a lot of respect for anyone who exerts himself to make a real contribution.

Everyone on the site gets to see my CUTE little picture each day and see that I am participating. LOL. I pass by when I'm on the computer to say HELLO and show SUPPORT to the site that was created for us nurses and other med professionals. I'm here to ask questions, answer questions, and deliver whatever knowledge I might have to a topic being discussed.

| Posted about 1 month ago sap- you are so right. Some people take things way too seriously. I'm here to have fun and enjoy myself. Good grief! Lighten up! and lunarcaustic- I liked your questions. I wish you would continue with them. |

My thoughts EXACTLY! I feel for cdnurse. I too have learned a lot, and have beeen able to receive positive feedback from a number of members about "real" nursing issues. I don't mind a game or two to lighten the mood so to speak, but a lot opf the things have gotten just plain senseless. |

| Posted about 1 month ago The site is here for all of us to get whatever it is we want from it. It has nursing articles, information, friendship, games and fun. Take what you want and leave the rest for others to enjoy. If you don't like the games -don't play them. But stop all this whining. Enough already! |

| Posted about 1 month ago Charlita said it well..........take what you want and leave the rest for others. It's almost like a "buffet". I feel like everyone is making a big issue over the games and silly things people post. It's serious business all day, when I get home and I'm free, I like to chill and do something fun. This site allows you to do that. For people who post the articles all the time, that's wonderful. I enjoy reading a variety of things. I just don't think your a better person because you post an article......................some of which are already posted with a link to get to on AOL. Often these topics are already on the nightly news too. Lets all be friends and professional people and stop making some people on this site feel insignificant because we aren't top posters. We are all put here for certain things. Some people do the searching and others do the work. I'm 20, young and vibrant and like making friends and meeting people with the same interests. Lets just remember what we are on this site for. STOP THE COMPLAINING. It's like TV...if you don't like the program, switch the channel. I really could care less about all these points everyone is talking about. Points aren't getting me anything in my career and in my studies. This is make believe. It's not like you can save up your points like "green stamps" and purchase a television set!!! LOL *Samantha*
|

Which is exactly the reason I'm #1 right now! LOL I tried really hard for a long time to earn "points" and when I finally gave up and didn't care anymore-I got them! I agree with RNdude-I don't care about the points now. I like coming here, meeting new people, visiting with the old people, exchanging ideas and information, learning and hopefully helping others when I can. I also like the games. They are fun and stress relievers. What you get from this site is what each individual wants and needs. Take what you will and give what you will. There's entirely too much bitchig and moaning going on right now. I, myself, am really tired of it. Let's enjoy the site for what it is-medical people coming together in the spirit of good will and shared information. Let's not bicker and complain. Let's just enjoy one another. I don't like some of the changes but I'm not going anywhere. This site has become a part of my life. I've been on it for a year now. I have met some wonderful people, learned alot and had alot of fun. So, I'm with RNdude on this.
I think some people take things to seriously. This isn't the lottery. We aren't winning the big million dollar price. What we are winning are friends, education, stress relief, and much more. I don't come to this site for points.
