Hello all, I am completely swamped over here and about to lse my mind. I am one step closer to completing my long journey towards becoming an Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. I have a ver long road ahead of me as I am still in the LPN program. Well technically the LPN program officially starts next. My school has completely changed the LPn program we have to go through 3 quarters of the Healthcare Assistant Program first-- CNA. This is the last quarter and I am already stressed out because they keep changing the program up on us and making it longer. I really wish that I just went ahead and went to the other school and did the 2 year Associate RN since this program is turning out to take the same amount of time. Oh well you live and you learn.

The question I have for anyone out there that can answer is this.

1. What is a nursing Diagnosis?-- I have looked this up but I am still confused.

2. How would you go about writing one for this case?

In my Diet and Nutrition class we have case studies and the one I am currently doing is about a 7 yo male that was discovered searching a garbage can for food. His skin was pale and he was dirty and unkempt. He was turned over to social services and told them his mother had been sick and taken to the hospital several months ago. He didn't know what hospital she was in and had been along all this time. He also told the SW how he had been surviving by himself. Social Services took him to the hospital where it was found he had a distended abdomen, serosanguinous sores on his body and painful lower limbs.

If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated.

Well first of all I would get out of that school! That's just plain wrong. All they're doing is squeezing more money out of you. Can you transfer your credits to another school?

Nursing Dx: A nursing diagnosis is a standardized statement about the health of a client (who can be an individual, a family, or a community) for the purpose of providing nursing care. Nursing diagnoses are developed based on data obtained during the nursing assessment.

I'm not a nurse, I'm an EMT, but I would start with malnutrition, neglect, etc. (not to mention the psychological issues)

Hope it helps...good luck!

Quick question for you:

Are you in a state school or a private school?

The reason I ask is because the majority of state schools have a rule that states you can graduate under the catalogue description of the program that was in place when you started the program.

I agree with emtpixie, if what you're saying about them constantly changing the program is right, they're really taking your $$!

Also, basic nursing education would include the answer to your desperate question!  This is what nursing school is all about.  You should have been given a list of text books that are resources to writing nursing care plans based on current NANDA language.

If you visit Amazon & search for NANDA, it brings up a list of resources.

Good luck!

It's a state school. All these program changes are truly driving me crazy and I am not the only one complaining. When I started 2 quarters ago I entered into what I thought was the PN program. But when I went to register for last quarters classes they informed me that I had to go through the Healthcare Assistant track first.  I was okay with this at first because they way it was set uup it wasn't adding any extra time to the program it was just structured differently but when I looked the progression for the program this quarter this new program did indeed add 2 full quarters to my education. I am so angry with this school right now and I am looking into transfering elswhere after this quarter. If all goes well I will be a CNA after this quarter. Some of my classmates asked one of our instructors yesterday if the new changes was a state mandated hing or just the school and she kind of had an attitude when she replied at least to me she did. But anyway she went on about it was the school decision and that they can make changes at anytime and that the reason they are doing it this way is because a lot of the PN students taking the Board were not passing on the first time. This also makes me angry again because I went on the site where you check how the students that take the NCLEXPN from mjy school do and they showed the school had a a high passing rate. I really want to transfer but feel I won't be able to transfer my credits and will be adding more time myself. If I do stick it out here and pass boards I will be a LPN and I am hping to get into the LPN-RN Brdige program.

Thanks for the answers to my question about Nursing Diagnosis.

Sounds to me like a school trying desperately to shore up their own inconsistencies. If there are lots of people not passing the PN exam then the instruction is lacking. If there were just a few it would be different, but in this case it sounds like a school, not a student competency issue. Also, I don't know what state you're in, but you should look into your school falsely representing itself. If they tell you the new program won't add time to your program and then it does, that's a lie. Not to mention their false representation of their PN exam pass rate. If it's a state sponsored school you need to contact the proper state authorities.
