Hi,

Have you had experience working as an LPN in a VA hospital or a correctional facility? There is an agent in Denver who wants me to work in a VA hospital. Does anyone know how much that would pay through an agency? Or how much Colorado pays LPNs to work in a jail? I have worked in correctional facilities in Florida and the pay was very good for that time. But it has been probably 8 years since I worked in a jail and I no nothing about the VA hospitals. Will the duties be the same as a regular hospital, basically?

Thanks to all,

heartsong

VA hospitals are great places to work and they do need quality nurses.  I am employed at a VA and I enjoy the patients most of all.  They are the ones that have given us the freedom we enjoy.  I have also worked in prisons in Kansas.  The pay is good and the criminals are criminals.  If you really want to work in a jail then do it.  I would absolutely recommend the best of the best nurses to seek employment with the VA.

The pay at the wichita va is better than the pay at the private sector hospitals.  I am not sure as to around the country but, I do believe it is equal to or greater than and the benefits are unmatched.  Double time for working a holiday. All federal holidays are paid and you are paid for the holiday if you don't work regular time.  It has a great retirement also as you may be aware.  Time off is better than the local hospitals.  Working conditions continue to improve and the VETERANS deserve the best care in the world.

Thank you, I think I will check into that.  Veterans are awesome people who do deserve the best.  I would love to work in a place where we are appreciated by the staff and the patients.
