Is 25 too old to START college?

Posted 3 months ago I found a Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday College program for Nursing. And i think i may just apply for this program. I never been to college before i just worked all my life. My parents dont believe in college. And i am paying on my own which is why im going to school weekends. I am going to continue my mon-fri 9am-5pm office job. My parents think im dumb for putting my money in someones hands to show me how to do something. But i always dreamed of being a nurse and im gonna give it a shot. I am scrared i may fail RN and have my parents laugh at me. ANY ADVICE? |

| Posted 3 months ago Yeah, here's some advise....do not listen to anyone who tries to drag you down. You are doing the right thing. And no, you're not too old to start anything. You can do this. | Posted 2 months ago You're absolutely not too old. There were students in my nursing program who were in their late 20s, 30s, 40s, and even two who were approaching or maybe in their 50s. No age is too old. Like the PP said, don't let anybody drag you down--if this is what you want to do, shoot for the stars, go for it! Yes it will cost lots of money, but depending on how much you make now, it will probably more than pay itself off in the long run, and that's just financially (not to mention what you'll get out of it personally, professionally, emotionally, etc). |

| Posted 2 months ago I don't believe this question??? YOu are ONLY 25....that is super young. Go for it girl...who cares what your parents think. you will show them once you graduate and are making 50,000 a year plus! A good man loves God and lives well....but

| Posted 2 months ago It doesn't matter how old you are...any age can obtain a degree. Go for it, you won't regret it!!! My father received his masters degree when he was 56 years old...and now he is working on a PHD at 62. Don't let anyone stop you from doing what your heart says.... | Posted 2 months ago 25? Is that all? Girl, you are still so young! Time to break 'tradition' about not believing in going to college. You can pass it down to your kids that you were the first one to start and finish college in your family (if that's the case). It's only a dream until you make it a goal. Good luck. |

| Posted 2 months ago GO FOR IT! Never let age be a barrier to obtaining an education. I didn't take my first college class until I was 47. Four years later, I have my ADN, passed my boards and will be starting a new career as an RN at 51. It is sad that your parents are not supportive of your plans. Perhaps you have a close relative or friend that can be a source of emotional support. A nursing program is demanding and it helps tremendously to have someone that believes in you and can be there when you get overwhelmed with all the demands of studying, exams, papers, clinicals, etc. Reach for the stars-pursue your dream to become a nurse- think positive. | Posted 2 months ago First of all one of the best investments you can make in your life is college! You are investing in yourself and your future! I played around at community college taking a class here and there since I was 18yrs old- but I had never really decided what I wanted to do or where I wanted to end up. Then when I was 26 I decided to go to nursing school- I went and got my LPN then when I was 35 I decided I wanted my to get my RN so I did. Right now I am working on my bachelors so I can get my masters. I would do what you want to do and not worry about what others say. |

| Posted 2 months ago thanks guys i kinda changed my plans alittle. im gonna go for 1 year LPN then move out. then go back to college for my RN. I dont wanna stay home another year. plus RN waiting lists here. plus my finances i'm paying on my own. but i feel my surroundings really play a big part in pursuing education. there tryin to make me feel guilty for going back to school? so i just told them im not pursuing secular education. Even though i am!! |

| Posted 2 months ago CDNurse i come to the conclusion that they dont believe in college because they dont want to pay for it! i notice when they get together with friends who talk about there kids in college my mom always says that why i dont believe in college you gotta spend thousands of dollars to pay someone to teach you something. and she glad she dont have to pay for college. she always said when i turn 18 get out of high school find a good full time job, go to post office they pay good $. |

| Posted 2 months ago AND THE FUNNY THING IS my aunt (moms sister) is a RN. But when i talk to her about nursing she goes back and tells my parents and they get upset! my aunt loves the drama. So i didnt tell her about me pursuing nursing either. She thinks im not doing it too! i've learned at 25 life is strange! |

| Posted 2 months ago Hey girl, I'm in 100% agreement with all of the other posters here! 25 is nowhere close to being too old to start college. There are a lot of opportunities out there, and many resources to help you pay for tuition, books, etc...INVESTIGATE, and use as many as possible! Mnay of us here had obtacles to overcome to get to where we are now, and it looks like your parents may be yours. Don't let them bring you down...TRUST ME...they will be proud of your accomplishments, and may even regret not offering to help you reach your goals. Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, martini in the other, body thoroughly used up, worn out and screaming "Woo-hoo"!!! |

| Posted 2 months ago OMG!!!!! I was doing nursing school homework at the kitchen table along with my children by the time life gave me my opportunity again. My q semester care plan material spread out over the entire living room with me at the center of it. The eye of the hurricane. Kids running through the house with me screaming "Don't touch a thing!!!" Go now, this very minute. Run, do not walk, do not pass go, straight to the admissions office! Besides, as we mature, we gain knowledge along the way that NO person in their twenties can even imagine. Fine wine, you know! Learning truly is a lifelong process, not merely a cliche. The ONLY "too old" is DEAD! |

| Posted 2 months ago I have a couple things to say. First off change your user name. It is negative and if you continue to think like that then yes you will fail out of your nursing program. Second you are 25 and an adult, if your parents don't want you to go to college then ignore them. It is your life and you can do whatever you want. My parents were the exact opposite. They wanted me to become a doctor and were upset when I decided after getting my 1st degree and working for a couple years that I wanted to go to nursing school. They came around and were happy that I picked nursing instead of medical school. Third 25 is not too old are you kidding me? Most of the people in my program are my age and up and I am over 30. Find someone positive that you can confide in and who will encourage you since your parents will not. And when you finish your program show them your first pay stub and see if they still say college is a waste of time. |

| Posted 2 months ago 25..... yours still a kid. I started my LPN at 27 gradutated at 28, and just started my RN at 29. I'm in the part time program so I won't graduate til I'm 31. I am going to school with a gentleman that is 48 and just got his LPN. He will finish his RN at 50. |

| Posted 2 months ago I didn't graduate from nursing school until I was 42. There were two students there even older. Guess what? The three of us graduated as the top three in our class! - you'll get into the swing of school life quickly. And DO NOT listen to anyone who tells you you're dumb for wanting to improve and educate yourself, no matter who they are! Good luck! |

| Posted 2 months ago I started LPN school the same year that I turned 23........I then started my LPN to RN, BSN program - the last month of that same year - so i will be 27 when I graduate in April with my RN.....I say definitely not too old :) |

| Posted 2 months ago I had a classmate for LVN who was 62 yrs old when we started the class and she said she will continue and be an RN. She's an amazing woman, she became florence nightingale awardee and she was an honor student. I believe that you have a bright future ahead of you. Just take the classes and you'll be amazed at how fast time will fly. Best of luck |

| Posted 2 months ago I was 20 when I got my LPN, and paid for it myself because my parents wouldn't (long story). Because I paid for it, I did very well. I am now 43, and considerig going back for my RN. You are never to old to go for your dreams! Another option would be to join the armed service (like the Navy), and become an RN on their dime. You get a top grade education and get to see a little of the world giving back your time! "a day without freckles is like a night without stars" |

| Posted 2 months ago I think what your doing is great. I'm 24 and will be doing the same thing. I have never heard anyone say that going to college is the wrong idea. As many others have stated your never too old to start and in fact your starting pretty early. Your position is a bit better then mine because I had already started college previously so you'll be entering as a freshman. |

| Posted 2 months ago Go for it! I was your age when I attended/finished my LPN. I was married with a 3 yr old child at that time!! At age 30, I attended/finished my RN! I had 2 children with another on the way at graduation from my RN school!! Shame on your parents for not being proud and encouraging to you!! My youngest son- 20 yr old is attending LPN school at the present time and my hubby and I are very proud and encouraging for him!!! |
