I generally address the issue. If a pt ask me for a date I graciously accept the offer, and don't plan to show up because as soon as he feels better, he has already forgotten.

I work in the ED This is esy. Give them one. Go over every lab result wth the pt. If you work on the floor speak to all the MD ask them if a patient comes to me and requests to know their lab results what do you want me to tell them. ALways talk with your MD. Even if they are assholes.

If you are single it is wise to always wear a wedding band. Unless you like to date your patient.

Even if your single, tell them your married, and if they ask about a wedding band, tell them you dont want to get pathogens on it, and bacteria hangs onto it and prevents you from making sure your hands are as clean as you'd like, when you wash them....

On several ocasions I have had to tell patients that I dont think my wife would approve.  And then just laugh about it with the pt.
