SARAH Palin abused her position as Alaska Governor by pressuring officials to dismiss a state trooper, an investigator's report said today.

In a 263-page report released by Alaska's Legislative Council following a six-hour closed doors hearing, investigator Steve Branchflower said the Republican vice presidential nominee was guilty of violating state ethics rules for public officials.

"I find that Governor Sarah Palin abused her power by violating Alaska Statute 39.52.110 (a) of the Alaska Executive Branch Ethics Act," Mr Branchflower wrote in the report.

Mrs Palin was the subject of an official investigation in Alaska which began before she was unveiled as John McCain's presidential running mate.

The inquiry was launched to probe allegations that Govenor Palin abused her position by replacing Alaska's public safety commissioner, Walt Monegan, because he refused to dismiss her ex-brother-in-law, trooper Mike Wooten.

Mr Monegan has said he was forced out after coming under pressure over the trooper.

The inquiry was launched following a unanimous bipartisan vote on July 28, and Govenor Palin had initially said she and all state employees would co-operate.

However, since her unveiling as Senator McCain's running mate, Govenor Palin and several members of her staff had refused to co-operate, with her campaign branding the probe as "partisan and tainted".

Its still on the news but they said it was her defending her husband who was after the trooper getting fired to the best of my understanding.  It looks like All of the candidates have secrets brushed under the rug.  Obama has his share too...his association with Rezco, Acorn, Rains, Ferricon, Ayers and others.   The last 2 debates were borderline boring.   If the candidates hit this forum, now THAT would teach em to fight dirty.  I do think Senator McCain has it in his ability to be more forceful................hopefully he'll go on a scavinger hunt and find his balls so he can be more foreful against Obama.  McCain seems to be down in the polls, we need sympathy and kindness during this time.

well, Ayers is 'an unrepentent domestic terrorist', by his own words.  He launched Obamas political career at a fundraiser at his home.  Sure Obama was 8 when Ayers did his terror stint, but its NO secret regarding his history.  Ayers own wife was on the FBI's most wanted list.

dmazement...thanks for the reference article. I always like to see accusations (or in this case a defense) backed up by REAL facts. I am so tired of the name calling and negative campaigning. If anyone has noted a poll has been done on that also...negative ads run by McCain are at 59% and Obama are at 26%.

Unfortunately, I don't think that takes in to account the comments that the good Governor is saying...

Okay, and am I the only one that viewed the televised comments of McCain 'taking up' for Obama as too little, too late????

You're welcome jegray88.  It truly bothers me, when people believe ad campaigns, emails and hear say rather than finding facts.  It also bothers me when people read articles and books and quote out of context.

jegray88:  Did you see those jerks in that mob?  They make us 'normal conservatives' look like jerks like them.   I'm glad he said what he did about Obama being a good man.  Were there any previous mobs in the news like that?  I'm not aware of them myself and happily would like to peek at them.  That HAG who yelled 'he's a A - RAB -............Lord reminds me of the relatives I disclaim to have and I'm so glad I didn't recognize any of them!   Ignorant people go on fantastical rumors and they love to believe the worse.

Was that crazy lady who was yelling 'A-Rab' in the same group as the guy who was saying 'Im mad, I dont want the country to be a socialist state'?  So was there one mob or 2 that was televised.  I only get to watch 'chunks' of reruns on the news and I'm hoping there will be no more of that foolishness.  Like I said before it makes the whole mass of us look bad and its not fair.  Most of us are kind, considerate , patriotic and tolerant.  That screaming lady is looking at a CVA soon if she doesn't conrol her temper.  Huge risk factor for heart disease:  stress.

Here is something about the person that investigated this... and remember Palin has been fighting corruption within her state.  Do you actually understand what the trooper did and his record.  If he was an officer in your city and did those things, he would have been fired immediately.  He tazed a 10 year old!!!!  The 10 year old was talking with the trooper and wanted to know what it felt like to be tazed... So the trooper tazed him.  It wasnt like the kid was attacking him and he had to defend himself, and even then, A 10 YEAR OLD!!!!!  Ples  he was caught drinking on the job, beat his wife, missed 14 days of work one year, and admitted he was wrong.  Oh yeah,, hes voting McCain/Palin!

WHO IS STEVE BRANCHFLOWER?

Branchflower Personally Lobbied To Be The Investigator Of The Inquiry, Despite His Longstanding Ties To The Man Whose Dismissal Is At The Center Of The Entire Case, Walt Monegan. In His Capacity As "Independent Investigator," Branchflower Has Conspired With Senator French, The Ultra-Partisan Project Director Of The Inquiry.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

Branchflower Is Special Counsel In The Review Of Walt Monegan’s Dismissal:

Branchflower Is The Special Counsel Appointed To Review The Dismissal Of Former Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan.

(Megan Holland, "Branchflower Will Investigate Monegan Case," Anchorage Daily News, 8/2/08)

Upon Branchflower’s Appointment, Governor Palin Immediately Questioned If The Investigation Would Be Fair.

"Palin heard about the appointment Friday and questioned whether the investigation will be fair. ‘The project manager, Sen. French, already elevated this by publicly suggesting impeachment before the Senate laid out any rules or an investigator was named,’ Palin said through spokeswoman Sharon Leighow. ‘Publicly elevating this to impeachment raises doubts as to how fair a process some senators may intend for this to be.’" (Megan Holland, "Branchflower Will Investigate Monegan Case," The Anchorage Daily News, 8/2/08)

Branchflower Has Conspired With Hollis French During The Inquiry:

Branchflower And Hollis French Are Former Colleagues.

"French will supervise Branchflower. French, also a former prosecutor and colleague of Branchflower, has told the council that the investigator will go to work gathering evidence and could come back to lawmakers if ‘some people just won’t talk.’ The House and Senate Judiciary Committees could then issue subpoenas to compel testimony." (Megan Holland, "Branchflower Will Investigate Monegan Case," Anchorage Daily News, 8/2/08)

Branchflower Admitted To Conspiring With French Regarding The Recipients Of Subpoenas For The Inquiry

Asked during a legislative council hearing why he did not know the names on the subpoena list, Branchflower said, "I put the list together, talking with Mr. French." (Alaska Senate Hearing, 9/12/08, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gPVSfGWWJ2k)

Branchflower Has Close Ties To Walt Monegan, The Person At The Center Of The Inquiry:

Branchflower And Walt Monegan Were Colleagues.

"If Plummer and his troops can make it happen, these warmed-up cases may be only the beginning. [Anchorage Police Chief] Monegan has ‘given us the time, and we’re going to give him the results,’ Plummer said. As head of the new unit, Plummer is following a department legend. In 1984, Sgt. Mike Grimes, along with Gifford and former prosecutor Steve Branchflower, developed a team approach to working homicides that proved successful into the 1990s, attracting praise from the FBI among others." (Sheila Toomey, "Cold Cases Brought To Front Burner," Anchorage Daily News, 5/5/02)

    • Branchflower Was Head Of The Office of Crime Victims Rights When Monegan Was Police Chief.

"At an Aug. 7 meeting, Mew and Police Chief Walt Monegan agreed the advocates could get police reports electronically and until that was set up they could go directly to the police records office, Branchflower said." (Lisa Demer, "Godfrey Case Opens Police, Agency Rift," Anchorage Daily News, 1/23/03)

Linda Branchflower Lavished Public Praise On Monegan When He Was Named Anchorage Police Chief.

"Anchorage Mayor George Wuerch on Tuesday announced his pick for police chief: Lt. Walter C. Monegan, a 27-year veteran of the Anchorage Police Department who also is a favorite of the agency’s rank-and-file officers. … He’s been a detective, an undercover officer, an internal affairs investigator, a shift supervisor and a department spokesman. He’s currently commander of the department’s West Anchorage district. Monegan is a respected supervisor because he listens to his employees and isn’t afraid to change course if something isn’t working out, said detective Linda Branchflower. ‘A lot of us see that as more courageous,’ she said. Several detectives said they are hopeful he’ll re-create the specialized detective units. In the current system, a detective investigating burglaries in one part of town may not realize similar crimes are happening in another part, Branchflower said. ‘We’ve been a train on the wrong track going in the wrong direction for too long,’ Branchflower said." (Lisa Demer, "New Chief," Anchorage Daily News, 1/31/01)

JWbr:  Thanks for the info. BUT hadn't the Trooper been married to Gov. Palin's sister for awhile? And yet I've heard no evidence of complaints filed about abuse or drinking until the Gov. became Gov. I just don't like the idea of abuse of power, reminds of Bush/ CHENEY.

I am sorry but I do not trust her, and do not believe she is a clean as she says she is. There is stuff coming out about her now that she is VP pick for McCain and i would not be surprised if she has a hard time getting re-elected in Alaska now.

I am sure we have not heard the last of her indiscretions. She is no different then the rest of them.  I can not wait to see what her and her husband polygraph's reveal can you?
