Can patients on supplemental oxygen use vaseline lip balm? I have read the petroleum products are flammable but can't find any info that states not to use with supplemental oxygen. Thanks.

Really? My patient is asking for vaseline too because her lips was so dry but couldn't find one so I wasn't able to provide her.

I've used K-Y, though it doesn't work too well: get's goopy and sticky.

Addendum: I wouldn't use vaseline anywhere near the mouth or nose for a different reason: if it gets breathed into the respiratory system it collects and can cause pnuemonia.

I'm not sure about your patient, but I have severe allergic reactions to most lip balm, so I use Vaseline instead. I've never had a problem with it.
