Posted 8 months ago Can patients on supplemental oxygen use vaseline lip balm? I have read the petroleum products are flammable but can't find any info that states not to use with supplemental oxygen. Thanks. |

Posted 4 months ago Really? My patient is asking for vaseline too because her lips was so dry but couldn't find one so I wasn't able to provide her.

Posted 4 months ago I've used K-Y, though it doesn't work too well: get's goopy and sticky.

Posted 4 months ago Addendum: I wouldn't use vaseline anywhere near the mouth or nose for a different reason: if it gets breathed into the respiratory system it collects and can cause pnuemonia.

Posted 4 months ago I'm not sure about your patient, but I have severe allergic reactions to most lip balm, so I use Vaseline instead. I've never had a problem with it.
