    I had an epidural and breastfed successfully. In fact,I'm having a really hard time drying up. My daughter surpassed her birth weight within 5 days! I guess I'm a rare case....

    I administered epidurals for over 20 years to women in labor. In my particular experience most women who did not want epidural fell into three general categories: first many are afraid of epidurals and chose not to have them, secondly many wanted that natural experience and these were in fact more likely to breast feed their babies any way and thirdly there were the contraindications both relative and absolute for women not to have epidurals. Of course fentanyl could be the culprit.
