Valentine's Day Heart Purse
Create purses for patients to collect classroom Valentines or treats in. This activity should take a minimum of 30 minutes depending on how much decorating is done. Younger children may need hearts pre-cut for them for safety reasons. Use your judgment.
Materials:
1. Fun foam or felt fabric in Valentines Day colors.
2. String, yarn, or ribbon.
3. Puffy paint, markers, or glitter glue.
4. Scissors, hole punch .
5. Large clips.
6. Heart templates
Optional: other decorative items.
Directions:
Each child will need 2 copies of the heart shaped foam or fabric.
1. Clip the two copies together.
2. Punch holes in the base and sides of the hearts, but not in the rounded top. Fabric may be more difficult to punch holes in and depending on the ages of the kids, you may want to prepare this step for them.
3. Show patients how to lace their ribbon or yarn into the holes so they can sew the purse together. Make sure to leave a hole on each side open to attach the strap for the purse.
4. Give patients time to decorate the purse.
5. Show patients how to measure the length of ribbon or yarn to create a purse strap. You can also braid three pieces together to make a fancier strap. Tie the stap on to the purse using the two extra holes.
Give the purse time to dry and they are ready!!!
